Without snowboarding, Makia would not exist. That’s where our roots are, and that’s where the idea for Makia was originally conceived. The Makia x Forum collaboration is a tribute to Forum Snowboards, one of the most iconic snowboarding brands out there – and, of course, to our frosty roots.

MAKIA × FORUM
We come from the North. We grew up with winter sports, but back then, it meant mainly skiing and ice skating during gym class. But when snowboarding arrived in Finland in the 80s, it changed everything. The rebellious idea of living free captured our teenage imaginations immediately.
As the decade rolled into the 90s, we found a personal hero in Peter Line, an emerging superstar in the US snowboarding scene. Everything he did, Jesse and I tried to pull off ourselves. Repetition paid off, because a few years later, we found ourselves joining the ranks of our hero in the US.
I joined the Forum Snowboards team while Jesse rode with Special Blend Outerwear. It was a whirlwind of a decade that took us around the world – and also sparked the idea that would later become Makia. Somewhere along the way, a talented kid named Lauri Heiskari was brought on board to continue the line of Finns riding abroad.
Many years have passed since, and eventually, Forum ran out of steam, only to be brought back to life by Peter. Goes to show that things can change, just to go back to how they were. It was high time for us to return to our roots and relive some good old memories.
For this collaboration, we’re gonna go way back – to the place where it all began.
